Adam Lambert Performance
The 2009 American Music Awards went off with a bang this year. With performances by Lady GaGa, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lopez and Jay Z / Alicia Keys. But the most talked about would have to be the finale by Adam Lambert.
There is controversy over the crotch grabbing/ fondling, and faux sexual foreplay in his performance, deemed as offensive.
It is not clear if the Disney owned ABC, were aware of the performance nature before it went to air. Although it is likely that there will be some heads rolling in the TV Executives staff room after.
While it has caused a stir with the viewers and online community, is it really offensive?
Artists such as Madonna, Lady Ga Ga, Beyonce and many others do live performances of very similar natures. Very overtly sexual with interaction with their dancers.
Is the controversy about the performance? or about his sexuality? being the fact that most of the interaction was with male dancers?
The singer had intense media attention during American Idol, when photos surfaced of Lambert kissing another man. While the attention continued the mainstream media presumed he was gay, making him the first gay American Idol. When asked by Rolling Stone if he thought the speculation around his sexuality impacted on the final vote, Lambert laughed and said “probably”.
The singer born in 1982, appeared on American Idol’s eighth season and was runner up on the show.
