An Event almost as popular as the Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Purina Petcentric National Dog Show, will be screening just after the parade today.

Featuring over 2000 dogs in over 150 breeds, that compete for the National Show. The Pyrenean Shepard, Irish Red and White Setter and the Norwegian Buhund three brand  new breeds will be competing for the first time, along side old favourites the famous bulldog Uli.

An announcer Wayne Ferguson spoke about adding new breeds “There have been times when we’ve gone three of four years without adding a new breed, and then maybe just one breed and then no more for a while, so three is a lot.”

The show held at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, filmed on November 14th, screens today for people to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day.

This year there is a lot of competition between the dogs and breeds, America’s top ranked show dog competes against Sadie, the Scottish Terrier. All competing for the Best in Show title after being  judged against their own group, then the winner from each group competes.

Purina stands as the number on pet food maker in America. You can also browse through dog breeds on Purina’s petcentric website. It also allows you to find a dog that would best suit your family, within your budget, lifestyle and allergies ( if anyone has them in the family) with it’s “Friend Fetcher” feature.

The associate brand manager of corporate, strategic and brand marketing at Purina, Jill Taylor said about the competition, “Petcentric is about the lighter side of pet ownership and we like to present things from a pet’s point of view,”  she continued, “We tried to have a lot of fun with it.”
