Lyrics and words are funny things. And some of the most beautiful songs are titled with similar names.
Just like “Yesterday”.
The Beatles recorded a song back in 1965 for their album Help! written solely by Paul McCartney, although originally credited to “Lennon/McCartney”.
It has the most cover versions than any other song ever written according to The Guinness Book of Records.
It still today has several thousand recorded cover versions available.
Along with being voted the best song of the 20th Century by BBC Radio in a 19 poll. Even as late as 2000, Rolling Stone Magazine and MTV voted it the Number 1 pop song of all time.
The Beatles formed in Liverpool in 1960 and became and English rock band who were critically acclaimed and extremely successful. Original members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrsion and Ringo Starr.
The band experimented with many genres of music, and soon became a massive influence of the cultural and social revolutions of the 60’s.
“Yesterday” is a very popular title for a song name, seeing the Beatles, Leona Lewis, Toni Braxton and 30 Seconds to Mars all have a song devoted to it.
The Beatles probably never knew the affect they would have nor a title to a song would have on the world.
They were all appointed Members of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 1965.
They had won 7 Grammy Awards, 15 Ivor Novello’s. And Multi Platinum, Platinum, Diamond, Gold and Silver albums just to name a few.
In 1988 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Billboard magazine ranked them number 4 in the all time top selling HOT 100 artists.
They had also sold more albums than any other artist in the US.
