Peter Gammons

There was an announcement on Tuesday regarding ESPN’s Peter Gammons, who will be leaving after the winter meetings to join ranks with the MLB Network.
His joining with MLB Network could be announced as early as Wednesday, a baseball official noted. The official who pleaded anonymity sighting the MLB Network who had not made the announcement as yet.
Coincidentally, Gammons was asked about his decisions at the winter meetings, and he reported he would not be able to discuss it until after Wednesday.
Gammons who write for the Boston Globe, back in 1969, and then moving onto Sports Illustrated from 1976- 78 and 1986 -90, joined ESPN in 1989 and has been an important player in baseball coverage.
A ESPN executive vice president John Walsh spoke of Peter Gammons, saying “Peter was the best and the brightest in making the transition from print to video,” on Tuesday.
Signing to the Creative Artists Agency in October Gammons who is 64, also received in 2004 the J.G. Taylor Spink Award for outstanding baseball writing. While also being honored during the 2005 Hall f Fame induction ceremony.
Gammon spoke about his departure saying, “My decision to leave ESPN and move on at this point in my life has been conflicted,” he continued . “ESPN gave me a great deal more than I gave it, and will always be a huge part of who I am.”
He also interviewed the man allegedly once involved with Madonna , Alex Rodriguez in February on camera. When the New York Yankees player came forward with his use of steroids from 2001-2003 while with the Texas Rangers.
Gammons was stricken with a brain aneurysm in 2006, while driving his car near his home in Cape Cod, but returned to broadcasting after three months.
