Times Square Shooting

times squareThere have been reports today, that police have shot and killed a man, around lunch time (Thursday) just outside the entrance of a Hotel in New York’s Time Square.

The are crowded with holiday shoppers and tourists, was a hype of activity when the 30 year old suspect was shot, then taken to Roosevelt Hospital where he later died, according to local reporting media.

A plainclothes police sergeant who was assigned to the anti-crime squad, trying to cut down on illegal vendors in Times Square, approached the man who was selling goods. When he was approached he pulled out a weapon and fired twice at the officer, who then returned the fatal shot, according to New York TV Channel NY1.

The gun and 27 rounds were found at the scene, according to police sources. While the drama unfolded Times Square was blocked off.

“There was a police-involved shooting at 46th and Broadway,” a police spokeswoman said, which is the site of the Marriott Marquis hotel.

According to local radio reports who were at the scene, the shooting happened at 11.30 a.m (EST) at the 49 story hotel in the ground level arrival car park. People surrounding the area fled when the shots were fired between the suspect and the officer.

New York City’s, Times Square is a major intersection in Manhattan a part of New York. It is on the junction of Broadway and Seventh Av. It is one of the most iconic landmarks in the world.
