Marcus Thames
There have been reports that the Bronx Bombers announced the signing of Randy Winn to a contract up to $2 million on Monday. While there are other reports that they also signed Marcus Thames veteran outfielder to a Minor League deal.
Thames who on March 6th turns 33, will start competing with Winn and Brett Gardner for playing time, says SI.com, when reports of the signing were first issued.
If Thames makes the 25 man roster he will get $900,000, added the new York Post.
Thames who is a right hand hitter, batted .252 with 13 homers and 36 RBI’s in 87 games in 2009 for the Tigers. Originally he was 30th round draft pick in 1996 by the Yankees and also in 2002 appeared in seven games as a rookie for them.
Thames in 2006- 2008 , a career .243 hitter has averaged 100 games, 23 homers and 57 RBI’s in Detroit per season.
