American Dad, has featured My Morning Jacket on the top rating TV show. With songs such as “I’m amazed”, “Steam Engine” and “Remnants”. The episode was titled “My Morning Straightjacket” and featured guest star Zach Galifianakis as an MMJ super fan.

American Dad creator Mike Barker, had a chance meeting after he saw the band perform 4 hour show in the pouring rain at Bonnaroo’08.

According to the bassist Tom Blankenship for the band, they and Barker were drawn together by “mutual love and respect for one another. We’re all fans,” he said.

The band also got to sit in on a table read for the show several years ago, and when in LA to appear on The Tonight Show, and play at the Greek Theater they recorded the voice overs for their episode.

Blakenship recalled the experience saying: “It was pretty wild,”  “When I was a kid, I wanted to be an animator, and then I thought it would be cool to do funny voices in a cartoon. But the actual work itself is not what I would have expected. It’s crazy trying to put forth emotion, get the cadence right, and do it really quickly but not too fast… there’s definitely an art to it.”

The band had gone off to do some separate projects such as  — Jim James playing with Monsters of Folk and Dan Auerback having Patrick Hallahan drumming while Carl Broemel worked on some solo material.

But this didn’t mean the end of the band.

He said they had rejoined to plot a followup to Evil Urges, released in 2008

When asked if  Blakenship and the band would consider doing other similar shows, he remarked: “If we could go back in time and do the Muppet Show, that would be awesome. Or I would totally do Sesame Street.”
