Two Tickets to Paradise
At the 2010 Liberty Bowl, viewers and the crowd were given a very surprising and special half time performance.
The singer best known for his 1986 song “Take Me Home Tonight,” Eddie Money performed the song “Two Ticket’s to Paradise” to the crowd at Memphis.
The crowd were certainly a little shocked as he came to sing the song, which he released over 32 years ago, with ESPN only showing a portion of the performance.
Money, was born Edward Joseph Mahoney in 1949, known as an American rock singer and songwriter, who had a number of Top 40 hits and Platinum Albums back in the 70′s and 80′s.
He was even deemed as having it all by Rock impresario Bill Graham, saying “Not only can he sing, write and play, but he is a natural performer.”
Like his father, he started as a police officer back in the 1960′s, but his interest in music ended his law enforcement career. This was when he moved to Berkley, California and started working the clubs, before gaining attention to secure a recording deal with Columbia Records.
His singles “Baby Hold On,” and the one performed at the game “Two Tickets to Paradise,” were released in the 1970′s.
His struggles with drug addiction and some not so successful releases began to fail his career.
In 1986, he returned with an album titled “Can’t Hold Back” which also had the duet with Ronnie Spector, ” Take Me Home Tonight,”which actually went to the Top 10 along with another song titled “I Wanna Go Back.”
He had another Top 10 hit in 1988 with “Walk on Water” but by 1992, his Top 40 career ended, through the 1990′s and 2000′s he continued to release some compilation albums along with other albums which featured new material.
These days, you can often see him touring with other successful rock acts, on the “Oldies” circuit and also appearing on several America sitcoms.
