Vermilion Border
It is funny the things that pop up on google’s trend list, sometimes it is a word, other times phrases. And often it is things that the general public, have never heard of.
One that is climbing the trend list today, is an odd one in itself, “Vermilion Border”
I know that most people would have not heard this term used before, but for others such as doctors and dentists, it is an important term.
It is the normally the pronounced line of difference between the red of the lip and the the normal skin. In dentistry or oral pathology, it is also the detector of pathosis (disease,) of such things as actinic cheilitis.
It also shows the change in the epidermis from external skin being highly keratinized to the less keratinized internal skin.
The lip as we know it, are redder as the skin is actually thinner and contain small blood vessels or capillaries underneath it.
It also unlike the oral mucosa contains no salivary glands.
