Youre having my baby
Paul Anka was a popular Canadian singer who released the song “Your having my baby” in late June 1974.
It was her first Number 1 hit in 15 years, originally recorded as a duet with the vocalist Odia Coates.
Although the single had it’s share of success it had also appeared on many “worst song” lists. even being voted as the number 1 “Worst Song of All Time by a poll conducted by CNN.com.
Anka who also released “Lonely Boy” a chart topper in 1959.
The song was written for his wife and four daughters while at Lake Tahoe. It was written to celebrate the joy and anticipation of becoming a father once again.
Coates an unknown had met Anka while touring, was at the recording studio the day of recording. When Bob Skaff a UNited Artists executive suggested the song as a duet.
The song quickly led on the charts and became Anka’s third number 1 hit.
The song was also covered by a female country vocalist named Sunday Sharpe who changed the song to “I’m Having Your Baby.” to offer the female perspective but otherwise identical to Anka’s version, her version only ever made it to number 11 on the Hot Country Singles on the Billboard Charts in 1974.
