The University of Georgia’s  mascot , Uga VII died today of heart related problems. Uga was only 4 years old at the time of his death. Uga served the shortest time as mascot for the University.

The mascots, tended by Seiler family members were a fixture at every Georgia Bulldog game, most away games, and many University functions.

Uga would be seen wearing a spiked collar and a red jersey with varsity letter.

He also wore a black jersey in 2007 for the “Blackout” game with Auburn.

He was a friendly affectionate animal, who loved children and to attend the games.

The actual jersey was made from the same fabrics used to dress the players themselves.

He was even issued with his own student I.D. card.

He would often be seen in his air conditioned dog house and sitting on bags of ice at the games, especially as the breed is common to be affected by heat stroke.

Uga came from a long line of purebreds. Some of his English bulldog relatives serving for many more years than he did. The team will still play this Saturday without a mascot and will present a wreath which will be laid on his doghouse in memoriam.

Sonny Seiler of Savannah is the breeder from which Uga’s line of purebreds came from.

Uga VII, whose official name was “Loran’s Best,” died without warning apparently of a heart attack.

Georgia will be playing Kentucky in Athens this weekend.
