The things people say can really get themselves or others into trouble. Charlie Weis, the just fired Notre Dame coach, suggested in an interview, that his USC counterpart, Pete Carroll was living with a grad student.

Which would be all OK , if he wasn’t married, and after the scandals of affairs lately, this gained him a lot of media attention.

Weis went onto say that his comments were taken out of context.

It was during the Question and Answer with Rivals.com, when Weis was asked to compare how Carroll was portrayed to himself in the media.

And being that, Weiss feels he hasn’t got the greatest of fans in the press in South Bend, Carroll is the ever popular figure in Southern California.

When asked how he felt about the media and how they treated him over at Notre Dame and how Carroll was he responded:

“Let me ask you this: You guys know about things that go on in different places. Was I living with a grad student in Malibu, or was I living with my wife in my house? You could bet that if I were living with a grad student here in South Bend, it would be national news. [Carroll] doing it in Malibu and it’s not national news. What’s the difference? I don’t understand. Why is it okay for one guy to do things like that, but for me, I’m scrutinized when I swear. I’m sorry for swearing; absolve my sins.”

These allegations were vehemently denied by Carroll a married father of three children.

Carroll angrily told The Los Angeles Times, “It’s untrue, it’s irresponsible, and it’s incredible he’d be talking about me like that.”

Only was it later that Weiss, made what he had said to be “totally subjective” during a conversation with reporters, and not part of the conducted interview.

He stressed that he was talking that if Pete Carroll was secretly dating a grad student, he wouldn’t be scrutinized because of his success.

Weiss also noted that he would “run Pete down and apologize” if his remarks caused offense to the USC coach, and that he had left him a message.
