Darius White

Today at the Under Armour All American Game, Fort Worth Dunbar’s Darius White, announced his commitment to Texas. Which Texas is I am sure, happy about since White is considered one of the most talented wide-receiver prospects in the country.

White who stands six feet four, has had 24 catches for 486 yards and also eight touchdowns in his senior season.

While he was also considering Oklahoma and Oklahoma State he went for Texas.

White said prior to playing and announcing his decision,”Oh man, at the beginning of the season a couple of main players got injured,” he said. “Then I got sick with the flu and missed a couple of games. Then I turned around when I did start feeling healthy and sprained my ankle real bad and missed another game because of that. I don’t sit out much, so I kept playing on it and it never really got healthy. Now that the season is over, I’ve been staying off it as much as possible even though I’m playing basketball and the past couple of weeks it’s felt a lot better.”

While trying to balance both basketball and preparing for the Under Armour game, proved tough for the player, as workouts were scheduled around basketball games and practices. Dunbar assistant Blaise Roberts helped with the planning.

White said, “He has helped me working out on the weights and he’s had me out on the field running routes and things like that to get ready even though I’ve been playing basketball. I’m going to focus on route running this week, making my cuts and hopefully I’ll have the agility to do it well. I’m excited and feel good.”

“I know there is going to be a lot of people on the White team coming after me because they see that I’m in that number one spot, but I’m not taking anything for granted,” he said. “I’m just going to come out and play and do exactly what I do at home but a little better this week.”

He also said about the announcement,”It’s not stressful now. It’s been winding down a lot, so I’m not taking it as stress anymore. When that Saturday comes and I put on whatever hat I put on, everything is done and all the stress throughout this is all gone.” White said. “The process has been a blessing. At first it was real cool, but then it got to be like a job and calls start everyday. You have to put time in for this coach and that coach to let them know you are still interested. You have to manage your time and make time for all of the coaches, so it was almost like a job everyday.”

“It’s going to be a school I feel comfortable at, a school my mom and grandmother feel comfortable at, a school I know I can get a good education and somewhere I know I’m going to play,” White continued, as he went on official visits to Utah, Texas and Oklahoma State. “I don’t want to go somewhere that they say I’m a good athlete, but I still have to wait to play. I want to go somewhere I can put in my work right away and play without waiting.”

In the end it was Texas who won over the rising star.
