How do you gain Pharmaceutical Sales experience, if NO ONE is willing to give you any?

I have been applying to small and large pharmaceutical companies to become a rep for about a year and a half. I have not secured 1 interview. I have 1 1/2 marketing, pr and bd experience from a firm in Houston. Any advice? How did any of you get started?
