The 3rd Annual BET Awards has been grabbing a lot of attention on the Internet, it featured some of the most talented singers and some of the most amazing performances. The show gave us the likes of Kim Burrell the gospel singer, who is also gaining a lot of attention about her weight loss, Mary J Blige, India Arie and Jennifer Hudson.
But most attention on the Internet at the moment is around Kim Burrell, or Kimberly Burrell Wiley, an American gospel singer hailing from Houston Texas.
The singer calls her style jazz gospel. She has quickly become one of the most influential voices in the gospel music industry only performing since 1995. She is often called “this generation’s Ella Fitzgerald.”
She also is an assistant pastor at COGIC. Burrell was also featured in a half hour special on MTV called From The Church to The Charts, which was in conjunction with the gospel themed motion picture Fighting Temptations.
International contemporary singers who count Burrell as an influence are people like Mariah Carey, Beyonce Knowles, Faith Evans and Jessica Simpson.
She has also gotten some rave reviews from other stars like Chaka Khan who said that Burrell is “one of the most interesting voices I’ve heard in a long while.”
While Harry Connick Jr, said of Burrell, “if she’s not the greatest musical mind I’ve ever been around, she’s certainly up at the top of the list.”
While Nelly Furtado purchased Burrells Everlasting Life album on recommendation from Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams.
